These are the textures I created for the latest assignment. I didn't finish 100% but I'll get there.

Here are some quick sketches I created as well. Each took 30 minutes or less.

My current course is about texture mapping, so the next few posts will have geometry created by others and showcase my texture mapping prowess ^_^.

August 22, 2012

Well, it's been a while. I've got a lot of personal things going on, so this post will be of work that I completed.

This was created for both modeling and animation 2 and low poly modeling. The characters and art style are from my Robotoon project.

I'm currently taking Modeling and Animation 3 and Designing Interrior and Exterrior spaces. For the modeling class I have to create a character for some one else's idea and for interrior and exterrior I am creating more geometry for the Robotoon Project.

Starting next week I will be gon for at least a month. I begin going to college full time in extreamly shortened classes. I will be on campus for 7 hours a day as well as continuing my Online studies. The good news out of all of this is that I will have about 2 hours a day on campus to work on some of the artwork, or atleast sketching up the thumbnails for the rest of the chapters. To bid this blog farewell for now, here is a piece from my current class project.
And since I never posted the finished product from my 3D class I will add that as well.

Wish me luck and see you in a month,
John Bowles

May 1, 2012

I felt like making a video of me working on one of the many background images I will be creating in the future.  I used the music I typically listen to while drawing, I hope you enjoy.

This week seemed to fly by. Early on in the week I worked on another character design which I think will make people laugh a little if they notice who it was based on. For my class asignment I completed 2 backgrounds, the thumbnails for chapter 2 scene 1 and 5 of the  production boards. There are still a few minor tweaks to be made to all of them but here is a sampling of what some of one of the story panels.

Until Next Time,

Good new for project"Riki Tiki" my next class is a class for storyboarding, so I'll be able to work on both at the same time. More good news from this is that, anyone reading this, will end up getting to see some finalized designs.

These designs are just the start of some of the concept art I will be posting in the future.

April, 13 2012

These past few weeks have been busy. Two classes, this project, job search, and family have been keepin me on my toes.  Not to mention the release of Xenoblade saga eating up 8 hours of my life since 2 days ago.  In that time I have completed all of the game project documentation for project"Riki Tiki" as well as drawn designs for a few more characters. I also dug through some of my old music compositions to find music that would fit well with this project.

As I mentioned before, I completed all of the design documentation for this game project as a part of my Project Management class. Since I've never been much of a documenter I never realized how much writing goes into preproduction. I also created a couple of new character designs and found a few songs from past projects that will work well with this game.  After this week end thigs should slow down and I will be able to get back to work on the project.

Till Next Time,
John Bowles

March 27,2012

The past two weeks have been busy. I didn't do nearly as much on what I wanted to do as I wanted to, but I did get something done. School has been keeping me busy, so I guess I'll show some of what I've been doing there.

Now for some "Riki Tiki" News
In the past 2 weeks I have finished up the designs the village of Tiny Animals.  I am currently working on the story board thumbnails and designing the various characters.  This puts the current completion percentage at 14.4.

March 9, 2012

This week has been a busy one. I finished my storyboarding class with an A, started a 3D modeling class and a project management class and worked on as much "Riki Tiki" as I could.  The image above is my first assignment from my 3D class. I had to create a Doric temple, I chose the temple of Apollo at Bassae Greece.

The final for my Storyboarding class was the Lemon Lass comic strip. I was supposed to create something for a classmate but my "client" dissappeared after week 2.

Riki Tiki is progressing well. I now have most milestones defined and can give an estimated numerical value of completion.  As it stands at the begining of the week I had roughly 11% of all assets and coding complete. From now on I will end "Riki Tiki" sections with the current completion percentage.

Besides deifning the milestones, this week I focused on building designs. I created the look of most of the buildings in the village of Tiny Animals.  I should be complete with all the building designs by the end of the week.  The next set of milestones to work on after that are the characters.

As far as I can estimate, project Riki Tiki should be completed by July or August this year.

Riki Tiki (12%) Complete

Until next time,

March 2, 2012

This week was slow on the production front, and hectic on the getting life in order side. It's nearing finals for my Story Board Rendering class so I have been getting a lot of work done on that.  Earlier in the week I entered a contest to create a character and backgrounds for the story of a super hero named Lemon Lass. Above is an extended version of my original submission and below is the character design that the contest creator likes.

Feel free to visit Prizes.org and vote for the work you like best.

Time to relax a bit,

Feb 25, 2012

This week was more of an organizational week. I created the list of required art and programming assets and made note of the ones I have already completed. I also began work on more environment designs.

School has me acting as though I am a professional story board artist by creating cost estimates for imaginary projects.  I may like doing the work, but I'm not much into the business side of it so I put in some numbers, but can't really explain why I should charge them other than what the required reading told me.
I'm also working on a new digital painting using Photoshops Blender Brush. I really like how this tool makes a digital image look like an oil painting or a well blended Prisma Color colored pencil drawing. This version took about 2 or 3 hours to make, another 6 hours and I might be happy enough to say it's done.

Well that's all for this week,

John Bowles

Introduction and Back Story

Hello all,

Lofty Dreams Studio is my freelance graphic arts and game design company.

This blog will be dedicated to posting current events happening at Loft Dreams Studio. From Educational and Freelance achievements to keeping track of progress development for my game development projects.

Since this is my first post I will give you a brief back story.

In the mid 90's I decided that I wanted to make video games. Since then I have studied programming, audio engineering, worked on a few failed start up projects and am currently enrolled at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh for a Bachelors in Game Art and Design. My work has been used for advertising and t-shirts and am always looking for new opportunities to challenge myself.

I have recently completed prototype testing for my current casual game project and have begun pre-production of the title code named "RikiTiki." Currently I have completed writing the story, designed the main characters and roughed out the world in which the games events take place.

I plan on updating every Friday with progress notes for "RikiTiki" as well as when any important news happens relating to Lofty Dreams Studio.

Until next time,
John Bowles
